The OTC Service

The OTC provides the unique opportunity to try and compare the boards and sails from all the major windsurfing brands, just as the equipment's designers would have wished them to be used. This means that all the sails are rigged on their desired high carbon-content mast, and the boards maintained to the highest standard, racked by brand for easy distinction. There are in excess of 85 boards and 105 sails stocked in the centre, providing more than enough to go round for intermediate to expert sailors, even when the centre is running at capacity.

In the OTC store-room itself there are changing rooms and toilet facilities, although we do ask clients to remove all personal items from the centre at the end of each day. Refreshments throughout the day are available from neighbouring cafés, the closest of which is less than 20metres away from the centre doors.

The Booking Process

When booking a place at The OTC, we will require you to classify yourself into one of the two broad categories below, just to help us gauge what equipment you are likely to use during your stay, so as not to over-subscribe the centre.

• Intermediate: Having mastered the footstraps, harness and waterstart, you're looking to improve the consistency of your transitions, such as the fast tack and carve gybe.

• Experienced: Well versed in the art of sailing in strong winds, a board of sub-100L is where the fun begins!

We do not allow people to book individual boards for their stay, as it would be unfair on other guests who may wish to try that particular board. Rest assured that there is more than enough excellent equipment on the market today, so sharing has never been an issue.

Booking is based on using the equipment for consecutive days and prices for additional days over what is listed on the right are available on request.

The No Wind Guarantee

For those that book and pre-pay for the OTC service at least four weeks prior to their arrival at the centre, we will offer a 'no wind' guarantee. This means that for every non-planing day experienced, we will provide a credit note entitling you to a free day's use of the OTC's services on a return visit, (up to a maximum of 40% of your return visit's duration).

• All prices include Canary Islands sales tax (IGIC) of 5%.
• Cover for damage to our equipment is not included in the advertised prices.
• If you are paying by credit card and your card is not a sterling card, your bank will convert the transaction to your currency - you may not receive the same exchange rate used by the OTC to convert the advertised GBP prices to EUR. We are currenty unable to charge in EUR but hope this facility will be available shortly.
• If you choose to pay with a credit card your booking will be subject to 2% surcharge. We accept Visa, Mastercard and JCB. We regret that we are currently unable to accept American Express or Diners Club cards.
• If you pay with a UK debit card (Electron, Solo or Maestro) you will not be subject to a surcharge.
• If you choose to pay by a cheque in GBP drawn on a UK bank account or you transfer GBP to The Official Test Centre Ltd UK bank account you will not be subject to a surcharge.
• If you choose to transfer EUR to El Medano Windsurf SL bank account you will not be subject to a surcharge by the OTC however you may be subject to charges by your own bank and should verify with them first.
• If you decide not to pay in advance the OTC is unable to offer its 'No Wind Guarantee' and we will be unable to guarantee that your preferred choice of equipment will be available.

More Information

• Tuition is currently not available although ask a member of staff upon arrival to be informed of the current situation.
• It is recommended that you bring your own shortie or summer wetsuit as well as harness.
• In using The OTC's services, we will clearly describe the safe sailing area, after which we waive responsibility for your actions. Rescue cover is provided and the sailing areas will be continually observed when clientele are on the water.
• We reserve the right to assess the sailing ability of each client before allowing them to use our equipment. If we deem their sailing is sub-standard, we are entitled to deny them use of our kit.
